An Update on Remote Learning Tuesday and Wednesday

Dr. Kenneth Rodgers, Jr.

President and Head of School

Dear SLA families, faculty, and staff,

Thank you once again for your flexibility and resilience during these difficult times. I’m grateful that many of us were able to share space today and ease into a new semester, albeit remotely.

A substantial number of families in our community remain displaced from their homes, and an even larger number recently received fresh evacuation warnings as the winds begin to pick up again. The forecast calls for high winds and dangerous conditions through Wednesday evening, and given the information we’re receiving from County officials and our conversations with CAIS, we have decided to continue with remote learning both Tuesday and Wednesday.

SLA is a school with a unique mission—to bring together an uncommonly diverse student body—and as such we have families and faculty in well over 40 different zip codes across the city. Many have been fortunate to avoid evacuation warnings and red skies, and I know our students are eager to return to campus as soon as possible. Many others continue to face dangerous and uncertain circumstances that can change hour to hour. As an administration, we are making decisions with the health and safety of our entire community in mind.

Once again, if your family has been affected, please reach out to Mr. Watterson at watterson@school.la, and if you have any tech needs for virtual learning, please reach out to Mr. Villareal at ithelp@school.la.

Sending you all my very best,
Dr. Kenneth Rodgers, Jr.
